LAST CALL: Corporate savior hogs IA spotlight

Batman may have served his purpose in simpler times, but today's corporate scandals call for a new breed of superhero. Luckily, Iowa's Democratic party has brought us Hallibacon, the corporate crime-fighting pig!

Batman may have served his purpose in simpler times, but today's corporate scandals call for a new breed of superhero. Luckily, Iowa's Democratic party has brought us Hallibacon, the corporate crime-fighting pig!

According to his official bio, Hallibacon was a regular pig until, feeding from the trough one day, he was bitten by an "experimental spider, a la Spiderman. From that day, he's had super strength, and the ability to snuff out corporate corruption.

"Heeding his late uncle's words, 'With great power comes great responsibility,' the Defender of the Downtrodden became Iowa's friendly neighborhood corporate crime-fighting pig."

As his name implies, Hallibacon's rival is Vice President Dick Cheney, who oversaw a spate of creative accounting episodes while CEO at Halliburton.

But his big moment will come this week, when President Bush is expected to be campaigning in Iowa. No word on precisely what the pork crusader will do, but it's a safe bet it'll be in very bad taste.
