On the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABI) website you can get flight details, travel tips, and information of when to catch Red Dawg's next gig.
Austin visitors get a taste of its famous music scene as soon as they hit terra firma. Not only is all the airport's intercom music mined from local talent, but the facility also regularly features live acts on its dedicated stage.
Bands submit CDs to Nancy Coplin, ABI's music coordinator. Coplin, along with event sponsor CA One Services - an airport hospitality contractor - publicizes the gigs through local radio, airport trades, and local channel Austin Music Network.
Post-9/11, stage access is now limited to airline ticket holders, as it is located beyond the security check-in. But some dedicated fans have gotten around it.
"One girl drove 60 miles to see her uncle play, said Coplin. "Instead of going home, she bought a cheap ticket just to get in."
