NASHUA, NH: Funky gadget retailer Brookstone has hired a veteran of the tech sector as its first PR director.
The hiring signals the company's decision to up its use of PR to get more focus for its products and retailing operations.
Robert Padgett started as PR director for the 240-store chain last month.
He has been doing private consulting and freelance writing for The Boston Globe.
Prior to that, he was director of communications at Priceline WebHouse Club, a failed online grocery venture from Priceline.com that shut down in late 2000.
Padgett also has worked for Burson-Marsteller in New York, for Pfizer in media relations, and with The Dolphin Group, a California public affairs agency.
Brookstone started searching for a PR director in April. Padgett isn't planning to hire additional internal PR staff or agency help.
