LOS ANGELES: Universal Pictures has hired a new head of media relations, and restructured its communications department.
Beth Laski, formerly an editor at The Hollywood Reporter, is now SVP of media relations. Laski will serve as the main contact between trade and consumer journalists and Universal executives. She reports to Eddie Egan, copresident of Universal Pictures marketing. Jeffrey Sakson, Stephanie Kluft, Michael Moses, and Greg Sucherman have also all been promoted.
Laski resigned as executive editor of film at the Reporter in May 2001 amidst an internal controversy. David Robb, a labor writer for the trade, accused columnist George Christy of accepting gifts and favors in return for coverage. When the publisher tried to kill the story, Robb resigned.
Editor Anita Busch and Laski also quit.
