AUSTIN, TX: Schlotzsky's, a casual-dining restaurant chain, has given additional communications duties to Monica Landers, director of communications.
Landers joined the company a year ago to work on expanding its website.
The site serves as an information and communications resource for franchisees and operators of company-owned restaurants.
Landers will "work with the branding team to make sure we have cohesive messaging," she said. She will be working with the company's franchise communications group, as well as with outside agencies.
Schlotzsky's uses Fleishman-Hillard and an Austin shop, Engelking Kozmetski Communications, for investor communications. Engelking also handles media relations and other PR assignments.
Landers had spent nine years with ABC News, including a stint on Good Morning America, and worked in the tech arena before joining Schlotzsky's.
In addition to Landers' appointment, the company named Steve Braasch VP of marketing and brand strategy, and Lou Mabley director of marketing and field services. Braasch came from GSD&M Advertising. Mabley was a brand manager at Kraft Foods.
Major PR and marketing projects Schlotzsky's has underway include testing wireless internet access in its restaurants, and becoming a new sponsor of the Austin City Limits country-music show that airs on PBS, Landers said.
