FRAMINGHAM, MA: Staples has hired Paul Capelli as its VP of PR. Capelli will report to Shira Goodman, EVP of marketing.
Capelli's position is a new one at Staples. The company is bringing together its brand and corporate PR - along with charitable giving - under Capelli, the first time those functions have reported to one executive. Staples launched a charitable foundation, the Staples Foundation for Learning, this summer.
On the business front, the chain has been redesigning its stores to make them more customer friendly, and has been refocusing sales efforts on its business customers. PR efforts will support those initiatives, Capelli said.
Capelli comes to Staples from CNBC, where he was a VP of PR and a member of the executive management team.Before joining CNBC, he was a senior PR executive at Amazon.com. He's also been an SVP at Ketchum, directing the firm's Miami office.
Earlier this year, Staples hired MS&L as its agency of record.
