How long have you been working there? At this present address, nearly six weeks. I just relocated to a new apartment, but have been running my own little operation from home for about a year-and-a-half.
How did you end up in your job? My former PR firm shut its doors in March 2001. I've been self-employed and working from home ever since.
Describe the physical space you work in. I am happily situated in about 200 square feet devoted solely to "office space." My cozy area comes equipped with computer, all-in-one fax/copier/printer/scanner, endless piles of advertising and business trade publications, the ever-so- important stereo, headset phone, little wooden turtles with bobbing heads resting atop my computer screen, and finally an "executive" view of Queens to my right, uptown straight ahead, and a slight peak of the West Side to my left, though that's pushing it.
Do you socialize with your colleagues outside of work? I rarely leave my own side for a minute.
What is the best thing about working there? Never having to wait for the bathroom.
And the worst thing? The kitchen is directly behind me.
What has been your most embarrassing moment while working there? Suffice to say a personal e-mail recapping the events of a rather racy bachelorette party made its way to a reporter with a similar name to the intended recipient.
If you could do your job from any location (other than where you are now), where would it be? No doubt, the top of the Empire State Building overlooking the greatest city in the world.
Where do you see yourself in five years? I hope to partner and grow my business to expand into other industries. My hope is to work with a team of young, creative, independent thinkers who aren't afraid to give an edge to the b-to-b PR world.
Sneak us a good piece of office gossip. I hear that when the boss sees an article featuring her client she does a little touchdown dance in the middle of her living room. But that could just be hearsay.
