IRVING, TX: NEC America, the telecommunications division of NEC USA, has selected the Ruder Finn Group as its AOR.
"We're supporting NEC America in all business aspects, including its key divisions and the corporate brand," said Ruder Finn EVP Robert Dowling.
"One of the first things we're focusing on is the brand and its positioning.
The whole networking and communications industry has been hit by the economy.
This presents a great opportunity to capture market share and increase NEC's share of mind."
NEC America chose Ruder Finn over Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, M/C/C, and Scott Cooper Associates, which were all part of an initial group of 10 agencies, said Frank Viola, assistant GM for the marketing and sales support division of NEC America's corporate networks group.
Ruder Finn will handle the account out of its New York office.
Dowling called NEC America a very significant win for Ruder Finn's tech practice.
Choosing Ruder Finn is part of NEC America's efforts to consolidate its marketing, said Viola. NEC America picked Ruder Finn because of its background in corporate communications, IT, and telecoms.
Despite the telecoms downturn, NEC America is focusing on PR to raise mindshare of the company's brand and its technological advances, Viola added.
