LAST CALL: Winona can't get free ride in court of public opinion

As if Winona Ryder's publicists didn't have enough on their plates at the moment, now they've stoked the ire of Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist C. J., who has taken up the cause of The Winona Ryders, a local mountain biking team whose members include a startribune.com staffer.

The Winona Ryders, whose motto is "Ride it like you stole it," had requested a signed photo of their namesake actress from her publicist, who is probably a bit too preoccupied with her trial for alleged shoplifting at a Hollywood Saks to worry about signing photos right now. They were turned away. End of story, right? Of course not.

The flap made its way to the desk of said columnist, who took it upon himself to harass LA publicist Joe Libonati for the picture. In the end, Libonati relented, and was rewarded with a C. J. screed on condescending PR types.

Sometimes, you just can't win.
