How long have you been working there? Just over four months.
How did you end up in your job? Following my May graduation from college, I sent resumes to various PR firms in the Pittsburgh area. My resumes went out on Thursday, and the call came from David Crosson, a VP at Magnet, on Friday. I interviewed the following Tuesday, and was extremely impressed by the staff and client base. I sent the writing test in and called to follow up, but I was never contacted again following that. I had almost given up on it, but then I was offered the job, exactly one month following my college graduation. I was thrilled, and my parents were relieved.
Describe the physical space you work in Our office, predominantly decorated in red, black, and white, is frustratingly divided so that walking to my supervisor's office, as well as the offices of many members of my team, can be a little bit of a hike. The view from the other side of the hall is amazing, as you can see much of the downtown area and the rivers. My office is less exciting, as I haven't had time to decorate the white walls. Luckily the last inhabitant left his/her poster of Van Gogh's Starry Night.
What was your luckiest break? Working with some of the senior staff members on an RFP, I had the opportunity to demonstrate my PR and design skills.
More importantly, I think I proved that I was capable of dealing with a stressful situation and taking on a leadership role when necessary, even though I'm the most junior staff member.
What is the biggest thing to hit your office in the past year? Me!
What is one thing about you that none of your coworkers know?
I have this amazing ability to write backwards. My parents started referring to me as "Rainwoman" when I showed them. Oh, and my last two serious boyfriends were twins ... but not each other's.
Where do you see yourself in five years? I will most definitely have moved out of my parents' house. I hope to have advanced well beyond my entry-level position, and continue on my path to dominating the industry.
