How long have you been working there? Three years.
How did you end up in your job? I studied business administration and marketing in college. I never really considered PR. My cousin worked for Brodeur (a division of Porter Novelli at the time, but has now become its own entity) in Phoenix, and recommended that I give Porter Novelli's Florida office a call.
I did, and here I am three years later.
Describe the physical space you work in I'm sure you've heard the term "glorified cube." That's my office. After my recent promotion, I made my case as to why I should have an office, or at least a door. It worked, sort of. I now have a cubicle with a door.
Who is the funniest person you work with? Me. No, really, I think I'm at least up there in the top five. I grew up around a wacky dad and it rubbed off on me. I think laughter not only makes you feel better, but it helps other people in the office. I don't mind making fun of myself to get a laugh. Life is too short, and PR is often very stressful. I am a great fan of answering office-wide e-mails with funny one-liners.
What is the best thing about working there? My coworkers. They are like my sisters. (We only have two men in our office.)
And the worst thing? The drive home. I live 45 minutes away. Having a stressful day at work makes for one angry driver on a long ride home.
What is the most exciting project you have worked on recently?
Procter & Gamble's Totalmente Latina Tour. The tour is made up of a forum, concert, and expo, all geared toward building confidence in Latina teens.
Being Hispanic, I felt very close to this program. Many Latina teens are facing a lot of peer pressure. Many suffer from low self-esteem. I think this program has really helped them love themselves and their heritage.
What is one thing about you that none of your coworkers know?
I used to spend my summers in Boise, ID, and I lived in Ohio when I was younger. Not very Hispanic, I know.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Running the world... ha, ha, ha. I'd like to head up PR for an animal shelter, humane society, or other animal-related account or institution.
