TOY BOX: A hot gift item for waffling shoppers

Given the icy economy, many may find coal instead of bonuses in their Christmas stockings. But they can still take comfort in the ultimate comfort food with this affordable stocking stuffer available at your local Target.

Given the icy economy, many may find coal instead of bonuses in their Christmas stockings. But they can still take comfort in the ultimate comfort food with this affordable stocking stuffer available at your local Target.

Designer Michael Graves is the Jaclyn Smith of Target, and the Graves collection includes the season's best cheap-o gift - a Belgian waffle maker that is, as the package notes, an "inspired" balance of form and function. It's really a Black & Decker-branded WMB-500 model, resplendent in a gorgeous blue box. If you're fed up with Eggos, you'll love to know this contraption exists. George Foreman's grill has nothin' on this baby, which serves up four miniature waffle-ettes at a time. Rather than chucking it in the bottom of the cupboard with past Christmas gifts, you can keep it on your counter since it's tiny and super nice to gawk at. Oh, and for you designer snobs, the Graves signature is right on top in fire engine red, like a shining blue-light beacon of tasteful holiday shopping on a budget.
