NEW YORK: MS&L has attracted pharma giant Aventis' former director of global product communications, Doug Stokke, to its healthcare practice.
The new SVP will report to Wendy Lund, SVP and practice director, and will be based in New York.
Joining the agency with 20 years' experience in the communications industry, Stokke has never worked on the agency side. He was actively seeking an opportunity that would allow him to make the switch when MS&L offered the newly created position. Citing a desire to influence internal staff without corporate experience, he said he reached a point where he became "intrigued by trying to translate my pharmaceutical experience to the inner workings of an agency."
Confident in the value of his ingrained client perspectives, "I believe my corporate background will allow me to anticipate the needs of clients before they even express them," predicted Stokke, "and in turn, I will be able to better serve them."
Prior to joining Aventis, Stokke worked as Glaxo Wellcome's director of US product communications for eight years. There, he was responsible for the approval and launch communications for several HIV therapies.
MS&L, which is owned by Paris-based Publicis Groupe, ranked 11th among PR firms in revenue in 2001, with $79 million in billings, according to the PRWeek/Council of PR Firms annual rankings.
