LOS ANGELES: Johnson & Johnson has hired an ABC medical correspondent to act as a communications liaison and advisor both internally and externally across product lines.

Dr. Nancy L. Snyderman, a surgeon who has appeared regularly as a correspondent on 20/20 and Good Morning America, will help J&J plan and implement communications for new medical products for both consumer and professional audiences in her role as VP of medical affairs. She will report to corporate VP of public affairs Bill Nielsen.

The newly created post will allow Snyderman to meet with product teams internally to help them strategize on how to position and explain new offerings before they are introduced to the market.

"She'll make sure they understand the consumer-patient environment, and what it's going to take to successfully advance this technology to medical professionals," Nielsen explained of Snyderman's role.

"A lot of people have retained media stars or celebrities to be a spokesperson," said Nielsen. "That's not what we have in mind. She is becoming a part of the management."
