In song, he boasted of having 'friends in low places'. Now it appears Garth Brooks has a few buddies in Wal-Mart's PR department, too.
On November 17, Garth broadcast an exclusive 'live' concert to all of Wal-Mart's 2,300-plus stores in his quest to surpass the Beatles as the highest-selling artist in history.
While the Brooks PR machine claims publicly that 'Garth wants to give something back to the fans,' the broadcast date just happened to coincide with the release of his new CD, Garth Double Live. Surely the concert wasn't a PR gimmick designed to get customers into the store to break the record for most records sold in a single day?
The retail giant declined to address such questions. 'We're extremely pleased with our relationship with Garth and for the opportunity he gives us to entertain our customers,' said PR executive Alex Clarke.
