NEW YORK: Polo Ralph Lauren has named Hamilton South to the newly created position of chief marketing officer - a move designed to unite the retailer's PR and advertising functions.
At present South is senior vice president of PR, and works opposite a VP of advertising. But new corporate president Lance Isham has promoted him to oversee all communications, marketing, advertising and investor relations.
'We wanted someone to co-ordinate the whole opera-tion,' said a spokesperson. 'And Hamilton is perfect for the job.'
Before joining Polo in 1996 South, who is only 34, was editor at large for Vanity Fair, where he worked with Tina Brown. Chairman and CEO Ralph Lauren, said he has 'a unique understanding of corporate positioning.'.
