Cops hot over pepper-spray debacle

Most cities are thrilled with any publicity suggesting their police officers are diligently enforcing the law. Roanoke, authorities, however, were forced to fire Sgt. Allen Camden when word leaked out that he used pepper-spray to immobilize a lawbreaker.

Most cities are thrilled with any publicity suggesting their police officers are diligently enforcing the law. Roanoke, authorities, however, were forced to fire Sgt. Allen Camden when word leaked out that he used pepper-spray to immobilize a lawbreaker.

The catch? The lawbreaker in question was 77 year old Goldie Akers. After driving her car to her mailbox, she refused to answer Camden's questions about why her car was pointed the wrong way. Finally relenting, she opened her car window, only to have him pepper-spray her and charge her with reckless driving and obstruction of justice.

'Clearly, this is not the way we enforce the law here in Roanoke,' said a police PR.
