SAN DIEGO: Sempra Energy is set to review its relationship with its two PR firms, following the appointment of Jerry Florence to the position of senior vice president of corporate communications.
A former Nissan communications executive, Florence is a self-proclaimed 'strong believer' in PR, who said he plans to use it aggressively as part of the energy services giant's marketing mix.
One of his first orders of business will be to re-examine whether Sempra's arrangements with California-based PR firms Stoorza Ziegaus & Metzger and the Nelson Communications Group are still beneficial to the company's overall strategy.
'So much has recently happened in our industry - regulation versus deregulation, new opportunities in the marketplace - that this is an ideal time to review our options,' he said. While Florence declined to speculate whether a change was imminent, he said the firm will be keeping an 'open eye' for PR relationships that can help Sempra achieve its goal of becoming a top-10 energy firm.
He added that there are 'no early favorites' to get the company's business.
