CHICAGO: Ogilvy PR Worldwide is close to announcing a major piece of corporate business, the first fruits of bringing on-board former Sara Lee executive Anne McCarthy as co-head of the firm's corporate practice.
McCarthy started at Ogilvy last month and has been involved in three pitches for new business. Industry insiders said Ogilvy wanted McCarthy to help expand its Chicago business, the city where she worked from 1987 to 1994 with cake maker Sara Lee.
Senior Ogilvy officials said McCarthy's broad background made her a perfect fit for Ogilvy. 'She clearly gets both sides of the street - PR and ads,' said Bob Seltzer, CEO and president of Ogilvy PR.
While Ogilvy's Chicago roster includes major names such as Quaker Oats and R.R. Donnelly, it faces the challenge of growing in a Midwest market that continues to lose major companies to mergers.
While mergers have become a fact of business life, PR firms are offering a broader array of services, so business is still brisk, noted Lyn Corbett Fitzgerald, head of Ogilvy's Chicago office.
