NEW YORK: The Weiser Group is expanding its IR practice, hiring PR vet Peter Warrick to spearhead its New York operations.

Warrick, 34, was named managing director and co-leader of the agency's IR practice. He will co-lead the entire practice area with Dennis McSweeney, who was recently named managing director and co-leader of IR in the firm's Chicago office.

Weiser maintains a staff of 20 IR professionals between the two offices.

As part of its growth strategy, the agency is looking to hire more staffers.

Warrick said the agency is expanding its IR and communications capabilities in response to demand from business executives, who are increasingly recognizing the importance of financial PR.

'Senior management is getting a much better idea of how communications can manage valuation, and also expectations, and work through near-term market fluctuations,' he said.

In addition to its standard IR work, The Weiser Group will provide representation for companies seeking to raise venture capital and private equity. The agency recently signed on New York start-up vIntranet, which is raising seed capital.

Warrick said the agency is also looking to take on pre-and post-IPO businesses.

'We're looking at a whole group of small- to mid-cap companies with quality brands and top-flight management that are not really doing the best job of communicating the value of intangibles to the investment community,' he explained.

Last year, The Weiser Group garnered revenues of dollars 3.5 million from its IR practice, representing 23% of the firm's total revenues.

Prior to joining Weiser, Warrick co-founded the NY-based financial communications shop CCS, which has been merged into The Weiser Group.

Before founding CCS in January '98, Warrick served as VP and account supervisor at Ketchum from April 1997.
