BOSTON: After serving as Boston Public Library's (BPL) PR officer for the past 10 years, Art Dunphy is retiring from his post. Dunphy, 65, will return to work with his own PR and consulting firm.

The library is actively looking to fill the vacancy with a media relations manager who will deal directly with the press. Responsibilities include promoting 3,000 events held by the main branch and its 26 neighborhood branches.

P.A. Carr, communications officer for the BPL, will handle Dunphy's responsibilities until a replacement is found.

'There's no such thing as a better product than what we have, which is information and free access for everyone,' said Carr. 'There are fabulous, different types of stories. It's a wonderful challenge to communicate that to the press.'
