Diary: Disney's pond of death is no cause for a celebration

Disney, as we all know, has a clear-cut vision of what America should be like. What few are aware of, however, are Disney's efforts to realize this apple-pie vision?and how they have recently gone awry.

A few years ago, Disney created a community in Orlando called Celebration.

The town, with its picket fences and strict zoning, is intended to resemble the small towns of the '50s. Unfortunately, as Disney's PR minions have been trying to obscure, this vision of life has included more than its share of drowning deaths in the community's pond.

At the end of Celebration's World Drive, there is a stop sign. Drivers who miss the sign and fail to take the left onto Celebration Boulevard usually wind up in the pond. There have been at least four fatalities, and over six cars have been pulled from the pond.

When asked about the deaths a spokesperson called the situation 'a tragedy, obviously,' but had no further comment.
