SHORT HILLS AND CHESTER, NJ: PR boutique Spector & Associates (Short Hills) and ad agency Grafica (Chester) have snared The New Jersey State Lottery's dollars 7 million PR and advertising contract.
Spector beat out several contenders to win the PR portion of the two-year assignment, estimated to be in the dollars 2 million range. The Star Group and Winning Strategies, both New Jersey integrated shops, were among the competition.
Spector and Grafica will be charged with promoting New Jersey's online and instant win games. In the longer term, the firms will develop the marketing campaign for the state lottery's 30th anniversary celebration next year.
Lottery officials have insisted the agencies communicate that a significant percentage of money coming into the state lottery's coffers is funneled back into local communities. Last year, 53% of the lottery money was paid to prize winners and 39% went to education and other community programs.
'Going forward, we're developing ideas that will involve informing the public where the (lottery) money goes, which hasn't really been publicized,' explained Mark Devaney, Spector account executive.
Spector has installed two staff members in the state lottery's Trenton headquarters.
