NEW YORK: Space.com, a Web site headed by former CNN pundit Lou Dobbs, will name its AOR within a few weeks, PRWeek has learned.
The site's newly appointed director of communications, Meredith Halpern, will be leading the search process. She has already been contacted by around 12 shops, including a space PR specialist based at Cape Canaveral.
While Halpern is currently working with Richard Laermer's RLM PR on the July 20 site launch event?which also commemorates the 30th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon?RLM has not locked up the account. Once the event has taken place, Halpern will evaluate the site's PR needs and make a decision.
Halpern began work at Space.com earlier this month and is a former colleague of Dobbs. Dobbs, a respected financial journalist, hosted CNN's Moneyline News Hour until June, when he raised a few eyebrows by quitting to launch a Web site dedicated entirely to outer space.
Before joining Space.com, Halpern was VP of marketing and communications at Winstar New Media. Prior to that, she served as CNNfn's director of booking. She has also worked at Fortune magazine.
