NEW YORK: PR Newswire has extended its ever-spreading tentacles into the TV production arena through a new alliance with the Orbis Broadcast Group.
New York-based PRN already claims to be the leading distributor of electronic news releases to the media, but has had no presence in the growing VNR market. Orbis, which has revenues of around dollars 7 million, is considered one of the VNR pioneers.
According to PRWeek estimates, the top 10 VNR producers make around dollars 100 million a year combined, and the market is growing rapidly.
PRN clearly wants a piece of that action. 'Orbis' TV production and distribution facilities, coupled with our established print and Internet distribution networks, creates a very powerful service,' said SVP John Williams.
For Orbis, which is owned by the Austin-based firm Healthway Communications, the deal is an opportunity to target a wider audience. 'We'll have PRN's 110-strong sales force selling our service,' said Tim Bahr, president of Orbis' news division. 'PRN's connections to national and international media creates an incredible opportunity for us.'
PRN recently acquired UK news distributors Two Ten Communications as well as Newsdesk International.
