Hughes woos GE vet to head its PR

EL SEGUNDO, CA: Hughes Electronics has hired George Jamison away from General Electric to lead its corporate communications department.

EL SEGUNDO, CA: Hughes Electronics has hired George Jamison away from General Electric to lead its corporate communications department.

Jamison will assume the position of vice president of corporate communications on August 2. He replaces Lucius Gregg, who is retiring.

In his new position, Jamison's responsibilities include overseeing external PR, employee communications, and advertising. He will report to Charles Noski, president and COO of Hughes, and will also become a member of the company's management committee.

Prior to joining Hughes, Jamison served as VP of media relations and corporate communications at GE's CNBC cable TV unit from 1996 to 1999.

Before that, he served a as GE's manager of international communications.
