NEW YORK: Accountants are known for their facility with numbers. But if the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has its way, its membership will soon be just as quick with words and wit.
The group recently completed a training package to assist members with media relations. Developed by the Institute's PR/communications department, Meeting the Media: A Guide to Working Effectively with Reporters consists of a 32-minute training video and a 22-page booklet.
While the Institute's VP of communications and PR Geoffrey Pickard doesn't think the book/video package is a valid substitute for formal media training, he believes it is a step in the right direction. 'We developed this tool to encourage a larger percentage of our membership to work with journalists?both proactively and reactively,' he said.
The Institute, which has over 330,00 members, establishes auditing and accounting standards in the US.
