Business-to-business online start-up lures PeopleSoft boss to direct its PR

WALNUT CREEK, CA: PeopleSoft PR director Kit Robinson has bailed from the struggling Pleasanton, CA-based software giant for the top corporate communications spot at Commerce One.

WALNUT CREEK, CA: PeopleSoft PR director Kit Robinson has bailed from the struggling Pleasanton, CA-based software giant for the top corporate communications spot at Commerce One.

Robinson will oversee all PR and IR activities for the company, a business-to-business e-commerce start-up that last week announced an IPO. Ironically, the company had announced an alliance with PeopleSoft earlier this year to provide a global infrastructure for business-to-business buying and selling online.

Robinson effectively replaces Susan Dwyer, now Commerce One's VP of corporate marketing. During his three-year PeopleSoft tenure, Robinson oversaw its rise from a dollars 228 million company to a dollars 1.3 billion global corporation.

The number-two business software maker had recently seen a downturn, however, announcing layoffs and disappointing earnings earlier this year.

PeopleSoft has yet to name a replacement for Robinson. VP of corporate marketing Jeff Pulver is holding down the PR fort during the search.

In his new position, Robinson will be working closely with Commerce One's PR agency, The Horn Group, focusing on media and industry analyst relations for both the US and international markets. He said his biggest PR challenge does not lie in differentiating the company from competitors such as Ariba Technologies but in simply educating the media about business-to-business e-commerce in general.

'It's a whole new way of doing business, with huge potential benefits for both buyers and sellers,' Robinson said.
