BOSTON: McDonald's has awarded a sizable nugget of its regional business ? an account worth more than dollars 400,000 ? to Boston-based Bishoff Solomon.
The agency began pitching for the business in June, finally beating out incumbent agency Arnold Public Relations, as well as Regan Communications and Schneider & Associates.
The business includes 300 McDonald's restaurants in three states (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire) as well as the Ronald McDonald House charities in those regions. The program is slated to begin on September 1 and will include media relations, product and service roll-outs and crisis communications.
'We're celebrating our 10th anniversary this year, and this is a great validation of the things we've been doing,' said partner Helene Solomon.
McDonald's Boston Co-Op, consisting of 64 owner-operators from the three states that the business encompasses, reportedly asked PR agencies pitching the business to develop a strategy for tackling employee recruitment and retention. Bishoff attributes the win to the depth of its research, which included creating a Web site for feedback, interviewing potential employees and observing workers.
'We went all-out,' said Solomon. 'We really wanted it.' Partner Janey Bishoff will oversee the five-person account team.
The agency has also won a number of other food-related accounts within the past month. It kicked off work on July 15 with Maggiano's Little Italy, a chain which will soon be opening a Boston location, and is about to ink a deal with California soup company Covent Garden.
