BEVERLY, MA: Lotus Notes developer Ray Ozzie has lured former Lotus

PR chief Richard Eckel away from Parametric Technologies in Waltham, MA

to serve as VP of communications for his newest undertaking, Groove

Networks.

Ozzie left Lotus two years ago to found the company and is in the

process of developing new PC/Internet communications software.

Eckel, who had only been at Parametric for nine months as VP of

communications, said he was drawn to the company’s vision, which he

declined to reveal.

’It’s an exciting one, though, and with Ray’s history and the history of

the other development team members, it’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass

up,’ he said.

While Eckel’s role has not yet been clearly defined, he will report

directly to Ozzie, focusing on branding the new product and company.

’We worked together in the past at Lotus, and I found him to be

extremely talented and well-connected,’ said Ozzie. ’We’ve talked a lot

of times about working together again, and the timing was right.’

Ozzie would not disclose when the product would become available, but he

said the company has some ’very patient VCs.’

While Eckel is the sole member of the PR department, Ozzie said he will

most likely hire a few lower-level staffers to report to Eckel, as well

as an outside PR agency.
