WAYNE, PA: Safeguard Scientifics has fortified its PR operations,

hiring Alexander Ogilvy as its first agency of record and former Ketchum

hi-tech pro - and Army Reserve Captain - Michelle Pujadas.

Pujadas, named VP of marketing at the information technology holding

company, will oversee brand development and communications for Safeguard

and its various partnerships. Her addition follows the company’s first

outside PR and IR agency hire. Alexander Ogilvy will be responsible for

a variety of communications activities on an ongoing basis.

’We’ve had a strong reputation in the venture capital community and

Delaware Valley, but we’re trying to develop a brand identity on a

nationwide basis,’ said Safeguard president and COO Harry Wallaesa.

’We’re competing for mindshare and the dollars of shareholders.’

Safeguard works with seven venture capital funds - including RedLeaf

Venture II, TL Ventures and PA Early Stage Partners - giving the company

access to approximately dollars 2.5 billion in equity capital. The firm

makes equity investments in Internet and IT companies, working closely

with company management to build value and help them prepare for initial

public offerings.

Prior to joining Safeguard, Pujadas was senior VP in charge of Ketchum’s

Pittsburgh technology practice.
