CHICAGO: In a deal that adds PR and investor communications to an

already stacked financial consulting operation, Lighthouse Holdings has

bought Financial Dynamics, a British strategic communications company,

for a rumored 40 million British pounds (nearly dollars 65 million

US).

The acquisition marks the latest effort by Lighthouse, formed last

September, to put together one of the most comprehensive

across-the-board communications operations in existence. ’It gives us

another tool in our toolbox of marketing capabilities,’ said Lighthouse

chairman Terence Graunke. The group already boasts extensive consulting

and financial capabilities.

Lighthouse is not likely to stop with Financial Dynamics. The company

raised roughly dollars 217 million from two Chicago venture capital

firms and a management group led by Graunke to launch a buying binge.

Future acquisition targets are likely to include other PR firms.

According to president Martin Beck, Lighthouse wants to offer ’not just

business consulting and not just media consulting,’ but a broad array of

services to shape its brands and messages, thus creating what he calls

’selling experiences.’ He added, ’Lighthouse will be about speed,

innovation and growth.’

Financial Dynamics had no US presence before the deal, but will now gain

that reach as part of Lighthouse. Current agency management will likely

be retained to ensure a smooth transition.

In its purchases, Lighthouse has traditionally sought companies with

strong upper-level managers and allowed them to continue to run their

operations. Beck himself joined the company when his former employer,

Fitch, was bought by Lighthouse.

Besides Fitch (a products design firm), Lighthouse acquisitions have

included Primo Angeli, a branding and design consultant; Davidson

Marketing, a consumer marketing agency; and Fantastic Sports, a sports

marketing operation.
