WASHINGTON, DC: AtCall, a Virginia-based telecom firm that provides

long-distance phone service and prepaid telephone calling cards, has

hired The Aker Partners for publicity and corporate communications.

Four firms submitted proposals for the year-long account, though the

total cost of the contract has not been finalized, according to Colbun

Aker, managing partner of the DC-based firm. The AtCall business was

previously handled by Williams Whittle.

Aker described AtCall as ’our most significant telecom client’ and said

the win represents a big gain for the firm’s year-old tech practice. The

team will be led by politico Michele Amberson, hired last week as a

senior associate responsible for client relations.

Amberson previously worked on the ’96 Clinton/Gore campaign.
