BOSTON: Agnew, Carter, McCarthy (ACM) is apparently set to become

the next Boston PR firm to be swallowed up by an international

agency.

According to one source close to the firm, the agency has already been

sold, although partner Jack Agnew denied that report. ’It’s premature to

say the deal is done,’ said Agnew.

ACM admitted several weeks ago (PRWeek, July 26) that it had received an

offer within the past year, and conceded last week that it is in serious

talks with one suitor. However, Agnew said both agencies have pledged

not to discuss a deal until a decision is made.

While ACM would not disclose what agencies have extended offers, several

international firms lack a Boston presence, including Ruder Finn, Cohn &

Wolfe and Rowland Worldwide. RF had admitted to talking to several

Boston firms, although chairman of the executive committee Peter Finn

has not commented on the agency’s interest in ACM.
