LOUISVILLE: Humana has named Dick Brown as its new director of corporate

communications. Formerly executive director of the Kentucky Association

of Health Plans, Brown has also been public affairs manager at Humana

and a broadcast journalist.



PROVIDENCE: John Pontarelli has returned to The RDW Group as SVP of

account services. After leaving in 1991, he served as director of

corporate policy and director of external relations for Philip Morris,

and MD of Burson-Marsteller’s NY corporate practice.



MINNEAPOLIS: David Speer, co-founder of Padilla & Speer (now Padilla

Speer Beardsley) and former Minnesota commissioner of trade and economic

development, died August 14 at the age of 72. While he spent most of his

career in PR, he devoted much time to charity, serving as chairman of

the North Star chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He was also an

honorary consul for Finland.



NEW YORK: Danskin, supplier of women’s dancewear and activewear, has

chosen Rainbow Media to publicize an expanded brand effort and an

e-commerce debut. The firm is now headed by former Liz Claiborne

accessories chief Carol Hochman.



CAMBRIDGE, MA: FitzGerald Communications has added partner relationship

management application firm ChannelWave Software to its client roster.

ChannelWave, which bagged dollars 6.5 million in second-round venture

capital funding in May, was represented formerly by Harpell/Martins

(Maynard, MA). Account director Doreen Maciak will lead the team.



CHICAGO: Nancy Hobor has been named VP of communications and investor

relations, a new position at WW Grainger. She will oversee brand

communications, internal and external communications and IR at the

dollars 4.3 billion maintenance supply firm. She was previously head of

PR at Morton International.



NORWALK, CT: Internet career site 6FigureJobs.com has named DKB &

Partners as its lead PR and advertising agency. Founded in 1998, the

company offers online recruitment services for senior executives.



IRVINE, CA: Nelson Communications Group has named broadcast veteran Art

Navarro as VP. Since 1989, Navarro has worked as a broadcast journalist

covering Southern California. He will manage Latino outreach and media

training programs.



NEW YORK: BSMG Worldwide has promoted three senior execs. Gail Heimann,

head of the NY consumer marketing practice, has been named partner and

chief creative officer. Chris Broderick, formerly head of the business

marketing practice, becomes a principal, as does Rene Mack, who will

also take responsibility for its travel and lifestyle practice.
