to draw the line when it comes to PR after all.

Pfizer, which recently started marketing Viagra in Malaysia, sponsored

the Chequers Golf Classic in May. As part of the promotion, Pfizer

Malaysia offered a year’s supply of the blockbuster drug to the first

two players to shoot a hole-in-one during the tournament. This was no

small bounty: each Viagra tablet costs 28 ringgit (dollars 7.40).

When users and health officials complained that offering Viagra as a

prize demeaned the serious health problem of erectile dysfunction, the

company quickly replaced the tablets with a cash award. ’We do not want

it understood that we are treating (the condition) lightly,’ said Pfizer

Malaysia MD Radzmi Rahamat.

Next up on the Viagra global PR front: Brazilian politicians handing out

free tablets to stimulate the sexual appetites of aging rubber tappers

in a remote Amazon state. ’They are aging and they need stimulation,’

said Wagner Salles, a deputy in the state legislature.
