NEW YORK: ABC television PR executives have until August 31 to agree to a move to Disney headquarters in Los Angeles or face losing their jobs.
The relocation edict is part of a cost-cutting effort by Disney, which announced in July it was merging its television production studio with the ABC prime time division. Up to 300 ABC staffers are being asked to move to Burbank, CA, but according to a Variety report, only 15% have agreed to make the move.
Kevin Brockman, a spokesman for ABC prime time and talent relations, said consolidation was expected and that PR positions would be lost, though he declined to discuss a time frame.
A handful of corporate communications pros will remain in New York, though most PR staff are keeping tight-lipped about whether they are relocating until after the deadline.
