Diary: Take that school name and park it!

Can a cartoon spawn an image crisis? It can if we’re dealing with Cartman, Kyle and the other irreverent, irascible scamps who populate a small town in Colorado. The English children’s school of South Park is being renamed in a bid to shed the image of a popular foul-mouthed cartoon of the same name.

The South Park infants school in the genteel southern English town of

Reigate has been rechristened The Orchards. The new name was given to

encourage children to love their education environment, school governor

Alan Mayer said. How lovely.

’We were aware there was a cartoon called South Park and that it was not

a particularly nice cartoon,’ Mayer said. He added that he was also

aware of an invention called the TV, which he similarly characterized as

’not particularly nice.’

No word if the children will continue their annual Halloween project on

the Blair Witch in light of recent developments
