George W. Bush has fleshed out his communications team by bringing

aboard another member of his Texas staff, Scott McLellan.

McLellan recently joined the Bush squad as deputy press secretary. In

that role, he’ll assist communications director Karen Hughes, also a

Texas Bush crony. Yet another former member of Bush’s gubernatorial

staff, Anne Friedenberg Swanson, was tabbed as chief spokesperson for

Texas First Lady Laura Bush (PRWeek, June 28).

In addition to his past work as chief of staff for a state senator,

McLellan boasts a somewhat unusual distinction: he helped his mother win

a statewide office, managing her successful run for state comptroller

last year. ’I was just glad I could help,’ said the loyal son of Carole

Keaton Rylander.

He then joined Bush’s gubernatorial staff, serving as deputy director of

communications.
