NEW YORK: Time-Life Books has tapped publishing specialists Jane Wesman

Public Relations to promote its new line of cookbooks. The series, which

is jointly sponsored by retail cookware chain Williams-Sonoma, will

honor acclaimed culinary regions of the world.



DALLAS: Bustin & Co. has promoted Barry Liden to principal, a position

that will put him in charge of the business development firm’s

government affairs efforts. In recent years, Liden has helped guide

Bustin’s energy clients through electric industry deregulation by

providing communications counsel. Before joining Bustin, he worked as

government relations director for the Los Angeles Area Chamber of

Commerce.



SAN RAMON, CA: Gibbs & Soell has hired veteran media relations pro Dane

Pascoe to oversee telecom accounts in the Northern California

office.



He will manage the firm’s adaptive broadband and advanced fiber

communications business. Prior to arriving at Gibbs & Soell, Pascoe

spent 19 years with PacBell.



ATLANTA: Cox Enterprises, a dollars 5 billion media and communications

firm, has hired Cohn & Wolfe veteran Brian Farley as executive director

of corporate communications. He has been charged with directing Cox’s

communications with the media, employees and investors, and is expected

to play a leading role in developing the company’s new media

businesses.



NEW ORLEANS: The Life Communicators Association, an organization for

communications pros in the life insurance and financial services

industry, will hold its annual meeting in New Orleans from September 22

to 25. Featured speakers will include adventurer/mountaineer David

Breashears and Bob Love, a former NBA star and current director of

community relations for the Chicago Bulls.



NEW YORK: Ogilvy’s New York office has announced a series of personnel

additions and promotions. Joining the creative services department are

Hera Marashian (VP) and John Delatorre (presentation designer). The

agency’s strategic marketing practice has added Wendy Schwimmer as a SVP

and promoted Michael Klein (AS) and Lisa Scher (AE).



FAIRFAX, VA: Capitol Advantage, a developer of specialized Internet

tools and services, has launched e-advocates, a consulting firm for

companies in the e-commerce space.



The firm sees the new offshoot as a complement to traditional lobbying

and grassroots marketing efforts. Among the ’cyber-advocacy’ services

offered by the new unit are Internet campaign planning and web site

design.
