CLEVELAND: In the wake of the long-expected announcement that

chairman Stanley Ulchaker will step aside, Edward Howard & Co. has

revamped its management structure.

Effective March 1, SVP Kathleen Obert will become president and CEO of

the firm, heading up a four-member management team that will take over

from Ulchaker. Other Howard veterans elevated into the management mix

are Wayne Hill, Nora Jacobs and Daniel Stanowick (all moving from SVP to

EVP).

Ulchaker, current president/COO Davis Young and EVP David Meeker will

remain with the firm past March 1 as members of the board but all three

will relinquish their management roles.

Obert said the succession plan was put in place to ensure the continued

independence of Edward Howard, which bills itself as the oldest

independent PR firm in the country. The agency is employee-owned, with

43 of its 48 workers holding shares.

Ulchaker, Howard’s chairman for 13 years, is the second major figure on

the Cleveland PR scene to step aside in recent months. Henry Eaton,

former chairman of Dix & Eaton, recently relinquished controlling

interest in his firm.
