SAN DIEGO: In what amounts to a major hiring coup for a hi-tech

boutique, Coopers Iverson Marketing has snagged Qualcomm senior

marketing manager Carolyn Brown to head up client services.

While Brown’s jump to a 16-person, San Diego agency from a wireless

giant named one of Fortune’s ’Top 100 Companies to Work For’ may look

like a puzzling career move, it actually represents a return home for

her. Brown began her hi-tech PR career at Cooper Iverson in the early

’90s before moving to the Bay Area to work for Phase II Strategies and

Grey Communications.

While at Qualcomm, Brown served as senior marketing manager for PR in

the company’s consumer product division. According to Qualcomm corporate

PR manager Christine Trimble, Brown’s replacement has not yet been

named.

In her new position at Cooper, Brown is responsible for heading up the

agency’s consumer hi-tech practice. She has also been charged with

overseeing all agency clients, which include Web Methods, InstallShield

Software and SBS Technologies.

Reporting to CEO Lorraine Iverson, Brown will also assist with agency

management and training, and emphasize professional-development

programs.

She is also expected to be an active participant in pitching for new

business, especially in the telecom and consumer electronics

sectors.

Founded in 1990, Cooper Iverson was one of the first hi-tech firms to

take root in San Diego. Today, the independent agency has clients in a

variety of hi-tech sectors, including e-commerce, wireless networking,

industrial computing and enterprise software.
