WASHINGTON, DC: The Arthur Page Society has chosen Federal Express

and Advantica Restaurant Group - owner of Denny’s - as winners of its

National Public Relations awards. The group also named Richard Mau, a PR

veteran of three Fortune 500 companies, to its hall of fame.

The Society tapped FedEx for its communications efforts with employees

and customers in the face of a threatened pilots’ strike on the brink of

the holiday mailing season of 1998. Advantica, meanwhile, won for its

attempts to change Denny’s much-maligned corporate culture, which had

spawned two well-publicized class action discrimination lawsuits.
