ATLANTA: Duffey Communications has added a feather to its

sports-marketing cap by hiring longtime Atlanta Falcons PR pro Charlie

Taylor.

Taylor, who joins the firm as an SAE in the consumer branding division,

had directed PR for the Falcons for 12 seasons, leading a full-time

staff of three and a 40-person team on game days. Before that, he served

in a similar capacity for the Washington Redskins.

His Duffey post will require him to do more than sports PR, a challenge

he clearly relishes. ’After a while, it became strictly media relations

and PR,’ he said. ’I could either have gone to another team, or made a

shift. I decided to stay in Atlanta and expand my career.’

Taylor is not completely out of the sports loop, however. Duffey boasts

several prominent clients who are using PR to support sponsorship

arrangements. Among them is Kinko’s, which is using the firm to hype its

NCAA men’s basketball promotion. Duffey is also advising Ray Wooldridge,

who recently bought a piece of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.

To accommodate new business, Duffey’s consumer branding division will

add an SVP soon.
