The Society of Professional Journalists recently celebrated Gable’s
achievements as a humor columnist by awarding him a coveted ’Woody.’
When asked what his San Diego Magazine columns had to do with PR,
however, Gable refrained from flashing his award-winning wit. ’They’re
completely separate from my work,’ he said, with nary a chortle or

exploring the ’truth’ about free-range chickens or the one about Spam
Man (who oozes down the beach handing out fried spam cubes) - read like
PR campaigns gone astray.
Still, he admits that his PR agency has been working to include more
’natural quotes’ in its press releases. We hope this results in a trend
towards more giggles and less drivel about ’integrated synergies.’
