CLEVELAND: A veteran of the Cleveland PR scene is launching a

newswire aimed at nonprofits, municipalities and small business owners

in Ohio.

The North Coast Newswire is scheduled to begin operation today,

delivering releases to media contacts in Northern Ohio. Its founder,

FitzGerald Group (Cleveland) president Stephen FitzGerald, believes

there is a niche in the market for a less expensive wire service than

the established giants.

While noting he’s used the national wires to distribute releases in the

past, FitzGerald said those services can present expense barriers to

small companies, nonprofits and others.

’They do a good job - I can’t register a single complaint about any of

the national wires,’ he said. ’But a lot of organizations simply don’t

have money to pay for them. My vision is to make a service available

that they can afford.’

North Coast newswire will charge nonprofits a dollars 50 annual

membership fee and dollars 70 per release; small businesses will be

charged a dollars 60 fee and dollars 75 per release. FitzGerald expects

his major distribution channel to be fax, although releases also will be

available on his web site, thefitzgeraldgroup.com. E-mail delivery will

also be available to some users.
