LONDON: Ogilvy PR Worldwide has acquired Sector Public Relations, a
dollars 1 million financial and corporate communications practice.
’It provides an excellent fit,’ said Ogilvy European finance director
David Hooper. ’We don’t have the skill sets that they can provide. It’s
an area that (parent company) WPP Group wants to get into.’
Founded in 1992 by Julian Goldsmith, Sector’s client stable includes
Boston Consulting Group and Barclays Bank. The firm is also a leading
player in the burgeoning e-commerce field, having launched Barclays’
site four years ago.
The acquisition - when added to key wins such as Efdex and Envision -
raises Ogilvy’s projected UK fee income for the year to over dollars 7
million, double the amount generated last year. ’We’ve grown about 75%
organically this year,’ European president Paul Philpotts said. ’This
will push us well over 100%.’
The two firms had been in talks for about three months, and Ogilvy did
not seriously consider acquiring or partnering with any other
