HONG KONG: In an effort to better integrate the Asia/Pacific region
into its worldwide operations, GCI Group is shifting one of its top UK
managers into the area.
Nicholas Walters, previously a managing director of GCI London, will
serve as chairman of GCI Asia-Pacific and chief executive of GCI Hong
Kong, both new positions. Walters, a specialist in corporate reputation
and business marketing, will move to Hong Kong in December to begin a
three-year stint. GCI Hong Kong general manager Anita Tsui will remain
in her position.
’We’re very bullish about the region,’ said president/CEO Bob Feldman.
’We see our business tripling there over the next five years.’
GCI has offices in eight Asian markets and three affiliates, but Feldman
said the firm has to beef up its investment across all practice
’While we have operations on the ground, the next step is to bring them
into worldwide strategic focus.’
He added that the move was inspired by clients’ demands for Asian
programs, but Feldman declined to name specific clients. As for plans to
possibly acquire the firm’s affiliates in Japan, Singapore or Indonesia,
Feldman said nothing was definite at this point.
A replacement for Walters has not been named, but chief executive Adrian
Wheeler and other London team members will absorb Walters’ duties.
