NEW YORK: Fallon McElligott PR has been selected to be an integral

part of the May 2000 relaunch of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Times Square.

Projected billings for PR, advertising and other marketing activities

will likely hit dollars 250,000.

Fallon, with outposts in both New York and Minneapolis, claimed to have

won the business over a global firm and two other boutiques, though both

Crowne and the agency declined to name the other suitors.

Jennifer Ploszaj, Crowne’s brand manager for PR, said Fallon’s energy

and enthusiasm sold the hotel giant on the agency. ’Their ideas were

extremely creative,’ she said. ’They really wanted it.’

The fact that Fallon’s better-known advertising arm also works for

Crowne sister company Holiday Inn Express helped establish a track

record for its PR operation. As part of the Times Square project, the

firm will work in conjunction with Crowne’s PR agency of record, the

NY-based Tierney & Co. Communications.

Crowne Plaza is hoping to attract event planners and party organizers to

the venue, and will use PR to capitalize on the growing media presence

in Times Square (Conde Nast and Viacom both call the neighborhood

home).

Adam Tihany, who has worked on projects for Spago Restaurants and Le

Cirque 2000, is redesigning the interior.

PR activities preceding the estimated May 2000 relaunch will include a

postings teaser campaign in Manhattan, a direct mail effort to VIP

customers and a star-studded event. Fallon’s team is led by

Minneapolis-based director of PR Pat Milam.
