group leader for its national healthcare practice and promoted him to

executive VP.

Merahn’s post includes both creative and administrative

responsibilities.

He will coordinate communication between the eight Shandwick offices

with healthcare practices and support each of the offices individually.

With the firm’s healthcare operation in the process of creating a

national infrastructure, Merahn’s role will be crucial.

’We are trying to give clients access to the collective expertise across

our nationwide offices,’ Merahn said. ’In today’s healthcare PR climate,

clients are demanding this kind of service.’

According to Sandra Powers, president of Brown Powers & Associates

(acquired by Shandwick in 1998), Merahn will grow the agency’s

healthcare capabilities, focusing on key areas such as public policy,

Internet healthcare and reputation management for healthcare

companies.

Merahn, a physician, spent six years formulating public health policy

for the New York City Department of Health. Prior to his promotion, he

was a Brown Powers SVP.
